About DarkRoast

A C++ game engine for Windows that skips the editor problem entirely — you build your levels in Blender. A companion add-on puts physics, Lua scripts, sound and world settings right in Blender's sidebar, a live link updates the running game as you edit, and Package Game hands you a standalone signed .exe. Free for any use, including commercial games, and it ships with complete playable games built on it.

Key Features

  • Blender is the editor — live link and hot reload while the game runs
  • PBR materials, baked and real-time global illumination, volumetric fog, reflections and a path-traced reference mode
  • Virtual geometry, world streaming, clustered lighting and GPU instancing
  • Jolt physics, drivable vehicles, destruction and a GPU particle editor
  • Lua 5.4 scripting plus visual Logic graphs, navmesh AI, VR and multiplayer
  • Package Game produces a standalone, code-signed Windows executable

How It Works

Getting started with DarkRoast is simple.

Model It in Blender

Lay out your level in Blender; the add-on adds physics, scripts, sound and world settings.

Script It in Lua

Attach Lua scripts or Logic graphs to objects, press Play, and watch edits land live.

Package and Ship

Package Game builds a standalone signed .exe you can hand to anyone — commercial use included.
